Scotland vs West Indies, Super Sixes ICC World Cup Qualifiers 2018 – Betting Tips

The West Indies managed to chase the highest total in the ICC World Cup Qualifiers 2018 and hold their destiny in their own hands. Scotland, the other team in this contest, also has a shot at qualifying. Scotland must win this match if it wants to qualify for the ICC World Cup 2019 although the West Indies could still get by with a loss. The stakes are the highest they have been so far in the tournament and we expect Scotland to come out all guns blazing.

Match Preview

Scotland

A crucial loss in the last match to Ireland has left Scotland in a tricky place. It was their first loss in this tournament but the margin of error is so small that now their world cup dream is in jeopardy. Beating the West Indies is not going to be easy but Scotland must believe it can be done. They have already beaten Afghanistan, tied with Zimbabwe, been dominant against most other associates.

Scotland has been good with the bat and tidy with the ball. They must try and stick to the same plan and hope the West Indians end up making a few mistakes. Wheal, Sharif, and Leask have been the bowlers that have impressed us most up until now.

Against the West Indies, the Scotting medium pacers will be under tremendous pressure. Harare has provided a better batting track than at other venues and allows the batsmen to hit through the line. The predictable medium-paced bowling from Scotland could be fodder for the West Indian big hitters.

The spinners will also need to adjust their lengths and be much fuller than they have been in other matches. We saw the West Indians just sit back and wait for the short deliveries from the Zimbabwe spinners in the last match.

Wheal picked up a few early wickets against Ireland and will need to do the same again if Scotland has to have a real shot. The West Indies can blow Scotland away with its batting pretty easily and the Scottish will be aware of that.

Scotland’s batting is dependent on Kyle Coetzer and Calum MacLeod to score the big runs. One of these two or maybe even both will have to do the bulk of the run scoring in this match. We saw the manner in which Scotland collapsed against Ireland and that is always a risk with them.

Scotland will have to dig deep to compete in this match and hopefully come out tops.

West Indies

A superb chase by the West Indies in their last match proved to us that they have brought their A game with them. A chase of 290 in a must-win match against the home team is not easy. It took some incredible batting by Marlon Samuels, Shai Hope, Evin Lewis, and a brilliant cameo by Rovman Powell in the end to get the job done.

The West Indies just needs to put in one more strong performance before they confirm their place in the ICC World Cup 2019.

We think this match will be much easier than the West Indies than the one against Scotland. They cannot get complacent but the West Indies is a far superior side to Scotland in every respect.

The batting depth that the West Indies possesses is a dream for a team like Scotland. The West Indies bowling is not overly threatening but should still have the teeth to bother Scotland. Simply put, it will take an implosion of gargantuan proportions for the West Indies to lose this match.

Of course, such things have happened in the past, and a little too often for the West Indies liking.

We are backing Chris Gayle to tee off in this match and get a huge score. He looked good against Zimbabwe before getting out and in clearly in good form. He will also fancy the easy-paced Scotland bowling.

In fact, both he and Lewis could feast on the Scotland bowling attack.

When it comes to the bowling, Jason Holder has been the most impressive bowler for the West Indies. He does not have the pace of Kemar Roach but has bowled excellent lines in this tournament. With 14 wickets to his name, Jason Holder is also the highest wicket-taker in the tournament.

The West Indies would want to improve on their bowling performance which allowed Zimbabwe to get nearly 300 runs in their last game. Scotland does not have the same batting depth as Zimbabwe and a couple of early wickets could settle the game very quickly in the West Indies favor.

Pitch and Conditions

The pitch at Harare has been the best for batting so far. There was good bounce and carry for the batsmen to play their shots. The short boundaries also made six hitting very accessible. We should have another good batting pitch if the weather holds up. Some rain has been predicted for each day of this tournament but we have been lucky so far.

Our Prediction

The West Indies should have enough firepower and experience to win this match with ease.

Back the West Indies to win.
