Afghanistan vs United Arab Emirates, World Cup Qualifiers 2018 – Betting Tips

Afghanistan posted a much needed win against West Indies in their last encounter which has kept them hanging in the tournament albeit by a thin thread. UAE, on the other hand, were handed a humilianting loss by Scotland in their first super six game. While UAE is already out of of the tournament, they can very well be the team to jeopardise the qualification plans for Afghanistan. Both UAE and Afghanistan were part of the previous edition of CWC 2015, but are struggling to qualify for the main event in 2019. Afghanistan will lock horns with the UAE on 20th March at Old Hararians Sports Club, Harare where a loss would mean an end to their camapaign.

Pitch and Toss

It is expected to be a partly cloudy day on Tuesday. With sun beating down on the surface on Monday and lots of Cricket being already played here, the pitch is once again expected to be on a slower side. Spinners are likely to have a big impact on the game and we expect the captains to win the toss and put the opposition in.

Afghanistan

Afghanistan’s had a nightmarish start to the campaign and despite registering a win against West Indies in their first super six clash, they sit at 5th position. Their only win in the group stage was against Nepal while chasing 195.

Afghanistan have clearly felt the pressure of a missing batsman and an experienced captain. Against West Indies too, while their chase was on track for whole of the innings, there was never a time in the game where they appeared to be absolute certain. They lost Rahmat Shah at one of the most crucial time, but the little cameos by Naib, Rashid Khan, and Najibullah Zadran saw them through.

Their batting has been a cause of concern right from the beginning of the tournament which was saved by the excellence of their spinners against West Indies. Facing a must win situation against West Indies, Mujeeb Ur Rahman and Dawlat Zadran kept Chris Gayle and Ewin Lewis quiet which eventually led to the fall of wickets. Mujeeb Ur Rahman has been taking the new ball quite often for the Afghans and it won’t be surprising if he does that against UAE as well.

UAE has been the most underperforming team in the super six stage and Afghanistan would like to post a big win over them to improve their net run rate, should that come into the picture. Their bowlers have done well and if their batsmen take up the responsibility, the Afghans will be hard to beat.

United Arab Emirates

Contrary to Afghanistan, UAE’s major problems have been with the bowling department. Barring their skipper, Rohan Mustafa, none of their bowlers has been able to keep the scoring rate in check or pick wickets. Out of the five matches played, their bowlers were clobbered for 300-plus total thrice and that is something their think tank will have to ponder upon.

Against Scotland, Rohan Mustafa bowled well and returned with the figures of 4/56, but he did not get any support whatsoever from the other bowlers. Mohammad Naveed and Zahoor Khan were picked for more than eight runs an over which allowed Scotland to be a little cautious against other bowlers.

Chirag Suri and Rohan Mustafa have been two of their most experienced players and it’s high time for them to come to the rescue. While the skipper has been good with the ball, his batting numbers haven’t been impressive. Chirag Suri too hasn’t scored much in this tournament except for a half-century.

All in all, an on-paper comparison of the two sides will have Afghanistan are a lot ahead. However, if UAE bowlers can put their act together against out-of-form Afghan batsmen, they may well manage to knock Afghans out of the tournament.

Out Prediction

Afghanistan had a horrific start to the campaign as their spinners were thwarted to all parts by Calum Macleod. They were then facing an early exit which and had their fate in the hands of Nepal. They are hanging in the tournament by a thin thread and a loss here will knock them out of the tournament. United Arab Emirates, on the other hand, have nothing at stake and will be playing for pride. While the Afghans haven’t been at their best throughout the tournament, their bowlers have improved consistently. With excellent spin attack and experienced lineup, Afghanistan are firm favorites to win in this match.
