Papua New Guinea vs Nepal, World Cup Qualifiers 2018 – Betting Tips

Nepal’s win against Afghanistan not only ensured the Afghanistan’s qualification but has also provided them an oppurtunity to have a go at getting the last remaining ODI status. Nepal will take on Papua New Guinea on 15th March will will act as a stepping stone in getting a guaranteed ODI status. The winner between PNG and Nepal will lock horns with the winner between Hong Kong and and Netherlands in the 7th place playoff which will also determine the team who gets the ODI status. Its a 3-way tussle between Nepal, Hong Kong, and Papua New Guinea and with ODI status at stake, no team will hold back when they meet at Old Hararians Sports Club, Harare.

Papua New Guinea

Papua New Guinea will have a mountain to climb when they face Nepal in the upcoming playoff match. They lost four out of four games in the Group stage and none of their games was a close contest.

Against Netherlands, they were in the match for most of the time, but first their bowlers could not wipe the tail and their batsmen weren’t up to the task of chasing a modest total thereafter. Assad Vala, their skipper, has done pretty well in almost all the games. He was a lone warrior in the previous match as he scored 44 runs from 58 deliveries while chasing a total of 218.

Earlier their bowlers pulled things back nicely when Netherlands were cruising at 57 for no loss. They bagged five wickets in quick succession and had the men in Orange reeling at 97-5. However, things started to go downhill from then as Netherlands batsmen managed to get a winning total of 218. While PNG have come close to winning the games often, they’ve been let down too often. They’d have to put their best foot forward against Nepal who’ll be riding high on confidence after their win against Hong Kong.

Nepal

Sandeep Lamichhane finally get his act together in the game against Hong Kong where he delivered a match-winning spell. Not only did he pick up three crucial wickets, his miserly spell in which he gave away just 17 runs was equally important.

Nepal restricted Hong Kong to 153 which should have been a cakewalk for them and it didn’t appear to be otherwise before they lost five wickets for 25 runs after an opening partnership of 41. Paras Khadka, their skipper, was back in the hut early and Nepal had no batsman who had been amongst the runs in tournament. Rohit Kumar and Sompal Kami then took the matter in their own hands as they weaved together a beautiful partneship of 89 runs which saw them home.

While Nepal wasn’t as successfull in the initial matches of the tournament, their bowlers picked up the rhythm as the tournament progressed towards the end of the group stage. With a slow, low, and turning pitch, Nepalese spinners will have a huge role to play in the upcoming fixture.

Our Prediction

Both Nepal and PNG didn’t have the best of their times in the Group stage. They both finished last, and this could be their chance to redeem themselves. The winner will proceed a step closer to getting the ODI status, the loser will fly back to home. Having defeated Hong Kong in their final fixuture, Nepal will come into this game with some confidence behind their back and with in-form spinners playing at ground conducive to spin bowling, they are more likely to register a win here.
