Netherlands vs West Indies, ICC World Cup Qualifiers 2018 – Betting Tips

The Netherlands has the slimmest of chances to make into the Super Six stage of the tournament. They need to register a major victory against the West Indies and then hope for some more results to go their way. West Indies has been excellent in the tournament so far and ensured that there are no slip-ups. It will be interesting to see if West Indies changes its approach now that it has qualified for the Super Six stage.

Match Preview

Netherlands

To say that this Qualifiers campaign has been disappointing for the Netherlands would be an understatement. They lost to Ireland and UAE convincingly before struggling to beat PNG. Netherlands has not displayed the kind of form that the West Indies would be worried about.

None of Netherland’s batsmen have imposed themselves on this tournament and as a result, the team’s bowlers have not had any decent scores to defend. Edwards and Cooper, the two opening batsmen for Netherlands, got off to a good start in the last game but then threw it away. Both of them will have a huge role to play against the West Indies in trying to ensure they are able to get a quick start and a big total.

Ryan ten Doeschate seems to be past his best and we doubt about how long he will play for the Netherlands after this tournament. Contributions from Roelof van der Merwe, Tim van der Guten, and Sikander Zulfiqar were needed to help Netherlands beat PNG. The same is not going to be enough against a West Indies team that is much stronger.

We would love to see the Netherlands batsmen make a match of this encounter but it looks like West Indies will have to suffer a fantastic collapse for that to happen. So who are the bowlers that can possibly lead to that collapse? Roelof van der Merwe and Tim van der Guten seem to be the two bowlers who can put some pressure on the Windies.

Klaasen and Seelaar will also have to provide early breakthroughs upfront if Netherlands has to dream of making something special happen.

West Indies

Three wins from three matches is nothing less than what West Indies would have expected from itself. In fact, even a single loss for them at any stage in this tournament will be termed a catastrophic upset. The West Indies basically came into this tournament with nothing to gain and everything to lose reputation wise.

This is why it is important for them to continue to keep their foot on the throat of the opposing teams after qualifying for the Super Six stage. We don’t think the Netherlands is going to be their toughest opposition but they do have some dangerous players in their midst.

West Indies must concentrate on their own game and how they can improve on their weaknesses. A top-order collapse against Ireland would have head their fans worried before Rovman Powell finally played an inning to remember.

The lack of runs from Evin Lewis and Marlon Samuels is troubling for the West Indies. Chris Gayle is a massive presence in the team while players like Shimron Hetmeyer, Shai Hope, Rovman Powell, and Jason Holder himself have been impressive.

We have no doubt that the West Indies is the strongest team in this competition. They are good enough to compete with the best teams in the world and having to play the qualifiers should hurt them.

Kemar Roach was very impressive in the last game, picking four wickets, and will be the main threat in this match as well. He bowled with pace, got swing early on, and was not afraid to use the short ball either.

He could easily run through the top order of the Netherland team and end this contest early. Holder, Nurse, Samuels, Williams, and Braithwaite have bowled tidily so far, although we would say that the West Indies has not really been tested in this tournament.

Pitch and Conditions

The weather forecast for Harare is not good. There is plenty of rain expected on match day and we are almost certain to have an interrupted match. Netherlands cannot afford a washout but the West Indies will certainly not mind it.

The pitch has been slowing up in the last few matches and we think it will continue to get slower as the tournament progresses. Batting first would be the order of the day but rain might prompt the side winning the toss to chase.

Our Prediction

The last two matches between the West Indies and the Netherlands have ended in massive victories for the men from the Caribbean. We expect the same this time around.

Back the West Indies to win.
