Hong Kong vs Papua New Guinea, World Cup Qualifiers 2018 – Betting Tips

Now that the focus has shifted from the group stage to playoffs and super six, there are playoff matches being played which are equally important for the participants. Nepal have already secured the ODI status and they’ll be meeting Netherlands for the 7th place playoff. Papua New Guinea will face Hong Kong on 17th March 2018 at Harare to claim 9th place in the competition.

Hong Kong

Hong Kong did not qualify for the super six stage, but they’d believe that they did decently in the group stage. Their win against the quality Afghanistan lineup has been the highlight of the tournament so far.

Their bowling was their stronger discipline, taking this tournament into perpective. Bowlers helped them in getting through to the end against Afghanistan. Ehsan Khan picked up four wickets in that game and was consistent throughout the competition.

Skipper Babar Hayat and Anshuman Rath are two of their most experienced players and they’ve done well. While Nizakat Khan and SS McKenchie have contributed in bits-and-pieces, no other player was able to contribute much with the bat. Their match against Papua New Guinea will be their final match of the tournament and they’re expected to come out all guns blazing to claim the 9th spot.

Papua New Guinea

Hong Kong fans would have expected more from their batsmen where only Tony Ura and skipper Assad Vala were the only contributers. Assad Vala has been their most consistent batsmen whereas Tony Ura’s 150-odd runs knock against West Indies is an innings to remember. With their final game coming up, other batsmen will have to pull their socks up and get the engine revving.

Papua New Guinea came close on a few occasions, but failed to get anything in the points column against their name. They bowled well against West Indies when they had them reeling at 58/4, but Holder and Hope got better off their bowlers.

Overall, PNG have started most of their matches well, but despite being in good positions, they’ve let the games go away from their grasp. They’d have to work on their finishing skills and an improvement there could well surprise Hong Kong in the 9th pace playoff.

Our Prediction

Both the teams will battle it out for the pride, finishing on a high, and of course the 9th place in this playoff. In the last five matches between the two sides, Hong Kong have emerged triumphant on four occasions. A win against Afghanistan in the group stage will imbibe confidence in Hong Kong’s players and for those reasons, they are more likely to prevail in this 9th spot playoff match.
